I went to J.Crew yesterday and just about drooled over their fall collection. There were so many fun colors! I usually wear more neutral colors during the school year, but after going into J.Crew I'm ready to add a little more color to my cool-weather clothing collection.
If you haven't received a Frontgate magazine in the mail before, or checked out their products, you definitely should. Flipping through the magazine, I wanted to buy just about everything. Some of my favorites are as follows:
The s'more is an ultimate summer staple. Although it is a tossup between ice cream and the ever-familiar gooey treat, there's just nothing like biting into a s'more at a summertime campfire. I've had my share of many s'mores flavored treats. At the beginning of the summer I had a s'mores bread pudding. Although it didn't taste that much like s'mores it was to die for. I also had a delicious s'mores cupcake. I even stopped at Insomnia Cookies on S.U. hill and got a a yummy deluxe s'mores cookie. Why is it that when you have a marshmallow alone, it falls short of being only mediocre, but grilled and sandwiched between graham crackers and Hershey's chocolate it's like fireworks in your mouth? If you haven't tried variations of this classic treat, you should. One variation I learned back in the day when I was a girl scout, is called a Banana Boat. Basically, it is a grilled banana stuffed with chocolate and marshmallows. I like to think of it as a healthier version of the standard s'more because you are getting a serving of fruit (=P). Anyway, You take a banana, slice it down the middle and stuff it alternating with pieces of marshmallow and chocolate. You then wrap it in tinfoil and place it either on the grill or in the coals of the fire. When it's hot and mushy, it's good to go. Depending on the heat and level of mushiness you like, I think it should cook for approximately 15 minutes, maybe a little less. If you love bananas and s'mores, and haven't tried out this one, you definitely should!
Okay, to be honest, there's really no excuse for my lack of blogging over these last few weeks. But the truth is, I've been trying to do a lot of cleaning, re-organizing, and de-cluttering in my life, and blogging just seemed like an overwhelming thing to take on. Which is just downright silly because I truly love blogging and reading blogs, and my lack of time spent online has made me fall behind. I miss the blogging world! So I'm back, and I plan on staying, so stay tuned for what's to come.
How do you guys stay on top of your blogging, when you're stressed or you're worried that your posts may not be up to your usual standards?
...And since I always like to include a picture with each post... here is a really neat one I took towards the beginning of the summer, when it was pretty foggy one morning. A big ocean liner was going right past our bay.
So I know this is a little late coming, but I hope everyone had a good weekend. The weather has been beautiful, so I've been spending most of my free time outdoors.
This is me on the 4th at my summer home in the thousand islands sporting my Lilly.
I was also sporting this awesome henna that my sister drew free-hand on my foot:
CB came up to visit and we spent most of our time on the river. We did make it to the Antique Boat Museum which was actually really awesome and well worth the ten dollars. If you're ever in the 1000 Islands or the St. Lawrence region I highly recommend going and checking it out.
One of my very favorite things about the museum was the houseboat La Duchesse that we took a tour of. It had the coolest fireplace that had starfish and shells on it. I want to replicate it and put it in my future house!
I got my wisdom teeth out on friday, but much to my relief I have been feeling pretty good. I'm hoping that means that I'll have a speedy recovery. Not going to lie, it is kind of nice to have an excuse to be lazy and do nothing. Thursday night I made Giada's Creamy Sweet Potato and Rosemary Soup. It was pretty good, and doesn't actually have any cream in it, so I'm thinking it's pretty good for you.
My sister got her tonsils out on wednesday, so my grandma sent us both flowers. How cute is that? I received pink roses, and my sister received light pink gerber daisies. The flowers are from The Backyard Garden, one of my very favorite florists and probably one of the best in at least CNY! I would love to get a job there after I finish school.
Last night I watched Just Go With It, with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anniston. It was funny and cute. A good summer flick. Not to mention I love Jennifer Anniston. I think she's absolutely gorgeous!
I'm getting a little tired of people telling me that college is the best four years of my life and that I should really enjoy it while it lasts. Now don't get me wrong, I enjoy college. It is truly a unique experience. I get to be with my friends 24/7, learn to be more independent, interact with amazing and brilliant people, and take interesting classes. There is no doubt that I am taking advantage of all of those wonderful opportunities. BUT I really don't like when people say that college is the best four years of your life. It's like, after all those years that I've already lived, and hopefully even more years that I'm going to live in the future, this is what it comes down to? This is as good as it gets? Not that life isn't good, but who's to predetermine how good my life is going to get? This could just only be the beginning. Although freshman year of high school was tough, it was still fun. I even enjoyed drama-filled middle school. Honestly, I look back on a lot of those experiences and laugh. If anything, my childhood years would have to be the best years of my life, because really, ignorance is bliss. And I often still act like a child, so hopefully that means I will always be blissful. I do refuse to believe my life is all downhill from here. I can only go upwards. What about all the exciting things I have to look foward too? My first real job? My first house? My wedding day? Motherhood? There are many different types of good experiences a person can have. I have a different kind of fun with my parents, than with my girlfriends, than with CB. Sure, everything comes with aches and pains, but I refuse to settle for a job I don't love. I'm not going to live for only 4 years.
So apparently my father checks my blog a lot more than I thought, and he has been scolding me for not blogging very often. I probably should have made "stay consistent with blogging" one of my summer goals, because it is definitely something I need to work on. I don't want to lose touch in the blogging world! Needless to say, I'm trying to get my "real world" life in order. I feel like I've been so busy but I have barely gotten anything accomplished. Know the feeling? I cleaned my car just last week, and then went to visit CB for the weekend, so once again my car became very messy. Traveling tends to do that to my car ( I swear it's not me ;-). ) I've found that at times my car can be very much like the bottom of my purse. By that, I mean that it's filled with junk odds & ends, and you can find just about anything you may need. Shorts, hairbrushes, toothbrushes, magazines, and flip-flops are among the treasures one could find while searching through my car. Whether its clean or messy, I like to keep some essentials stashed in my car.
spare change. It's usually not much, but it does come in handy.
an extra pair of sneakers. I always like to have them in my car, just in case I go somewhere for the weekend and want to go for a run or workout!
napkins/kleenex. I'm always blowing my nose. Therefore, these are essential. Also they're a go-to if i'm snacking!
blanket. Again, this one is good for traveling. Plus my mom always says to pull over if I get tired. Not going to lie, I took a nap in the back of my car once with a blanket!
advil/exederin. I get migraine headaches, and therefore like to keep this stuff on hand!
I have a Pandora charm bracelet that has been sitting in my jewelry box for a few years. I haven't worn it in a while, mostly because I tend to cycle through my jewelry and wear the same pieces for days on end; but I might pull it out again soon because today I saw my coworker wearing hers. I decided to go on the Pandora website and see what charms they have, and they have a lot of cute ones.
