Perfect Palette: Pink and Orange

I love the colors pink and orange together. They look good in different interiors, decoration, and clothing. I found so many good examples it was hard for me to only choose a few! So here are ten of my favorite pink and orange pics:

What do you think?

Say, do you like Starbucks?

I generally think there are two types of coffee drinkers: those who prefer Starbucks, and those who prefer Dunkin Donuts. At least, that's how I think it is up here in the Northeast for the on-the-go coffee drinkers. As you may know from previous posts, I prefer Dunkin Donuts, because I really like their iced coffee. But, the truth is, I didn't really become a coffee drinker until this year! And although I actually kind of like the taste of coffee now, I'm still not one of those people that needs it to get through the day (even though it can make the day much nicer). Despite my allegiance to "dunkies", MC and I decided to venture to the Starbucks downtown yesterday afternoon. I was excited to finally try one of their cakepops! The woman working there recommended I try the birthday cake kind, and I have to say I was fairly pleased with it! One of my favorite things about Starbucks however, is their gift cards. They always have cards with beautiful designs! I'm always excited to get a Starbucks gift card because it's like I received a piece of art. Not going to lie, I'm pretty sure I've saved gift cards that don't have money on them anymore. How cool would it be to create designs for their gift cards? I think I would love it! Before I graduate and get this Starbucks gift carddesign job, I might have to settle on customizing a Starbucks card online here. So cool that you can do that!

Some of the awesome designs! I'm loving the new flying geese one:

the cakepops, mmm:

and the red velvet mini whoopie pies that i'm going to try next:

Do you prefer Starbucks to Dunkin Donuts (or another chain coffee shop?) And if you aren't a fan of Starbucks coffee, do you love their gift cards as much as I do?

Happy Weekend!

Flowers are finally blooming in Saratoga Springs, NY! Across campus some of my favorite flowers can be seen and smelled. Spring is definitely one of my favorite seasons, and a lot of that has to do with the blossoming flowers. In my opinion, the presence of flowers makes each day so much happier. It brings back fond childhood memories of my mother gardening. My mom had the most beautiful gardens growing up (she still does). The house that I lived in until about the time I was 15, had gardens that went all the way around the house. She put a lot of thought and effort into her planting, and it always turned out well. I'm pretty sure she won "best garden of the village" or something, at least a few times. And she definitely deserved it. Day after day, she would be out laboring in the sunshine, digging in the dirt. Often, she was eager to let me help her and she always wanted my opinion on the layout of the plants. In the gardens at our River Home she always lets me have my own section to create and although the choice of plants and layout wouldn't always be her choice, she let me garden anyway. When we moved into our new house, we had the help of a landscaper at first, but my mom made sure she approved everything, and still tends to all the plants herself. I still enjoy making comfortable conversation with her, as I watch her garden and sometimes get my hands in the dirt as well. My favorite flowers today are still the same ones I loved watching bloom in front of my childhood home.

my favorite springtime flowers:

Lilacs. We had a huge tree (or two) on the side of our driveway that just overflowed with blossoms. I swear our whole backyard smelled good just because of that tree. Every year I would always clip a few and bring them to my teachers.

Daffodils. The brick sidewalk the ran up to our house was lined with daffodils. A nice greeting after walking home from school! I actually took this picture yesterday. The flowers are my suite mate R's. They are fresh from her parents garden and they smell so good! There is nothing like a natural air freshener =)

Hyacinth. We had them in our backyard near the garage. Ours were rather small and low to the ground. I thought they were so cute! On campus, there is some that has just bloomed right in front of the dining hall and it smells so good!

Tulips. A classic. And they come in so many different colors! We had a few of them spread out on the side of the driveway by the hyacinths. The fact that there were only a few in that particular area made them seem that much more special.

Are your favorite springtime flowers the same as mine and do they bring back fond memories for you as well?

Oh The Places You'll Go

Graduation is fast approaching for both college and high school students. It's tough to think of what to get people, especially if you want to do something different then just gift cards or money. When I graduated high school I tried to think of clever gifts to give all of my friends. But it's not always easy! One of the best gifts I received was a book called, Oh, the Places You'll Go! by Dr. Seuss. I thought it was so clever, and had a really good message. Plus I love Children's Books, especially Dr. Seuss. The play on words is so much fun, and the illustrations are great. I loved the idea of giving this book as a graduation gift so much so that I gave it to two of my friends. I highly recommend it!

Do you love this book as much as I do? What are some of your great gift ideas?

Here Comes Peter CottonTail...

Please excuse my absence in terms of posting these last few days! I had a race this weekend and then was busy celebrating Easter with my family and friends. The weekend, although short and rainy at first, went really well. My race was super close to my boyfriend CB's school, so he came down to watch the race with a couple of his friends. We had a solid race and advanced to finals. Later that afternoon, my parents, little sister, little sister's boyfriend, and I headed to our "River Home" in the Thousand Islands, on the St. Lawrence River. Unfortunately, my brother couldn't make it because he goes to school in Chicago. But, my good friend MC came for the festivities, along with CB and his younger sister who goes to school with him! The rainy day turned into warm sunshine and us kids enjoyed walking around sipping on iced coffee. Afterwards, all of us, plus another one of my friends, all went out to dinner, which was very good! CB and his sister left to go back to school after dinner because they had a lot of studying to do for finals. The rest of us kids decorated Easter Eggs, something my sister and I have made somewhat of a tradition. They all turned out really cool!

In the morning, we always hunt for Easter Baskets (yes, my mother still does this and I am perfectly okay with it). I found my Easter basket first!

Inside was a usual array of easter candy, a Dunkin' Donuts Giftcard (yesss) and soap (from TJMaxx).

MC and Little Sister also got soap in theirs. I thought the wrapping was pretty, so I took a picture:

I hope everyone who celebrates had a Happy Easter, and for those celebrating Passover, that it is going well! Let me know about the fun family traditions you all have!

What I'm loving Wednesday

There has just been too many things I have been dying to blog about, so I thought I would compile a few of them in one post.

good finds for spring (and summer) from Forever 21. Sometimes that store can really overwhelm me because it's so busy, but I was pleased with these purchases!

a red spiny oyster shell ring my parents surprised me with when they came back from a business trip in Las Vegas. Literally, this poor quality photograph does not do it justice. It is so beautiful!

a "callet"- a mix between a cellphone case and a wallet. I think yes. i don't have one of these, but talk about convenience?

Peeps Bunting! So cute! I might have to make this next year...

AND a peeps wreath? don't get me wrong, i'm not some peeps fanatic, i don't even really like them that much, but i love easter, i love fun pastel colors, and i love crafts, so obviously these things get me riled up!

books. I love books. old books. new books. big books. small books. children's books. it's my new obsession. (okay, it's always been my obsession, but i feel like it's gotten worse lately (or better depending on how you look at it). I can't wait for the summer so i "have more time" to read! yeee.

what are you loving?

One Lovely Blog Award

Maddie, from the blog Spark, awarded me my very first blog award- the One Lovely Blog Award. I was thrilled when I found out that she gave me this award, especially because she's one of my favorite bloggers. She's new to the scene, even more so than I am, but she knows her stuff and is very blog savvy. If you have not checked out her blog before, make sure you do! Anyway, for the award I am supposed to list seven random facts about myself, and then award it to 15 other bloggers, so here it goes!

1.) I'm a momma's girl. Don't get me wrong, I love my dad just as much, but my mom and I are basically the same person. One may find it frightening.
2.) I'm a middle child and I think this makes up a huge chunk of who I am. Some say the middle child is often neglected and passed over, but I highly disagree. I think i've got the best of both worlds. =)
3.) I am definitely a north east girl. Maybe it's just the fact that I've lived in the state of new york my whole life, and now go to school here. Although I often get mad when the cold weather prolongs, I love having changing seasons.
4.) Then again...I've never been to the west coast. The farthest I've been is Scottsdale, AZ, and I loved it. I am planning on traveling to cali and seattle sometime in the future!
5.) I'm a studio art major. After spending three and half semesters trying to find some other calling, I came back to art, something i've always been good at.
6.) I have been skiing since I was 3, but only recreationally, never competitively! My favorite place I've skiied would have to be Mount Tremblant in Montreal, Canada. Although I would love to hit up some mountains in Colorado and maybe even the Swiss Alps!
7.) I just started blogging in January, and I am slowly figuring it out. I consider myself to be a little bit technologically challenged. But I love blogging, I'm hooked!

And now to award some of my favorite bloggers, both novice and veterans:

Let The Tide Pull Your Dreams Ashore
Bun and Borough
BKR Fashion
Simply Southern
My Two Scents...Before I spent it
Pink Mascara
That's So Michelle
Love Jenny
Walks with Bella
Sharp Minds Think Alike
Ramblings of A Small Town Girl
Vineyard Loveknots
Tea and Toast
Simply Sara
A Little Lovely

Congratulations! Pass it on, and happy blogging!

I know, I know.

Another short post, but hey it's good to switch things up. I've just been so exhausted with crew! Race today, race tomorrow...had to wake up at 4:20 this morning. Story of my life. Needless to say, I will post about bigger and better things this week. In the meantime, here's a little inspiration, if not for you, then hopefully for me.

I hope the weekend finds you well.

In my opinion, Free Cone Day was a success. I tried both the "Oatmeal Cookie Chunk" and "Maple Blondie" and I have to say I preferred the maple blondie. The maple flavor was not overpowering at all and it was not too sweet. One small scoop was the perfect amount!

On another completely random note, Emily, fashionista and author of Cupcakes and Cashmere, a blog that I frequently visit, was interviewed with College Fashionista about fashion and her personal blog about a week ago or so. If you don't already follow her, or Carly of the College Prep, who also blogged about the interview, you should definitely check it out! She has some interesting views about the blogging world, and it was cool to see her personality through something other than text and photographs!

Also, stay tuned for more new and exciting blog posts!

Free Cone Day!

That's right. Most Ben and Jerry's across the country are giving out free cone's of ice cream today! So if you have a shop near you, you should definitely go get a cone sometime between 12 and 8pm. My favorite flavor is "milk & cookies" which came into the mainstream last year, but I think "half baked" will always be a classic. I'm curious about some of the new flavors! What is your favorite flavor of Ben and Jerry's?

Flavors I'm curious to try (let me know if any of you guys have tried them, and how they are!):

Clusterfluff: Peanut Butter ice cream with caramel cluster pieces, peanut butter & marshmallow swirls

Mission to Marzipan: sweet cream ice cream with almond cookies and a marzipan swirl

Maple Blondie: maple ice cream with blonde brownie chunks and a maple caramel swirl

Oatmeal Cookie Chunk: sweet cream cinnamon ice cream with chunks of oatmeal cookies & fudge
